National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) was launched by the Congress – led UPA govt as a part of its commitment to ensuring quality healthcare for all. The scheme proposes a number of new mechanisms for healthcare delivery including training local residents as Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) and the Janani Surakshay Yojana.
